Voice Notes
Voice notes let you send a quick audio message to your group, faster than typing when you're on the move.
Record and send a voice note
Open the chat panel.
Tap the microphone button to start recording, a red recording bar appears with a live timer.
Speak your message.
When done, tap the Send button to send, or tap the trash icon to discard.
Voice notes under 1 second are automatically discarded even if you tap Send.
The voice note is uploaded and delivered to all group members immediately. You can also reply to a specific message with a voice note the same way you'd reply with text, see Replying to a message →.
Free accounts can send up to 10 voice notes per group, per day. FLARE PRO → removes the daily cap. Voice notes can also be attached to map items (pins, routes, and areas), see Editing & Deleting Items →.
Listening to a voice note
Voice notes appear as audio players in the chat feed. Tap the play button to listen. You can pause and resume playback at any time.
Tips
- Voice notes work great when hands are occupied, gloves, driving, carrying gear
- Keep voice notes short and clear, ambient noise (wind, crowd noise) can make long recordings hard to understand
- Members can replay voice notes as many times as needed, useful for instructions that need to be followed precisely
Availability
Voice notes are available on iOS and Android. On web/PWA, playback works in all browsers but recording requires browser microphone permission.
Grant Carroted Maps microphone access when prompted, or go to your browser/device settings and enable it for Carroted Maps.
Radio voice notes
Voice notes are not supported in Radio groups. Radio communication uses text messages only (LoRa bandwidth isn't sufficient for audio data).
